The numbers involved with recycling glass
1. Each year Glass Recycling UK Ltd process over 250,000 tonnes of glass per year. Since 1977, we have processed over 4 million tonnes of glass!

2. In 1994 Britain saved the equivalent of 15 million gallons of oil by recycling glass.

3. It takes around 3000 to 4000 bottles and jars to make up a tonne of glass!

4. Each family in the UK uses an average of 500 glass bottles and jars annually. The largest glass furnace produces over 1 million glass bottles and jars per day.

5. It takes less energy to melt recycled glass than to melt raw materials used in the process of making new glass.

6. One bottle bank can hold up to 3000 bottles before it needs emptying.

7. Glass is 100% recyclable with no loss in qualit!

8. The drastic increase in recycling since 2001 have saved the same amount of energy as it would take to launch FIVE space shuttle missions!

9. Glass can be configured to absorb damaging UV light, ensuring a contained product’s purity and taste, giving Glass a longer shelf life than any other material used in packaging manufacture.

10. The colour of glass is often determined by different chemicals that changes the colour of glass ,for example chromium oxide is used to produce green glass.
